Something Big 2013

In today’s preface to the suitcase entrepreneur blog challenge, Natalie Sisson pointed her audience to keeping it real in terms of choosing to live life on your terms. I found it interesting as I read earlier this week, a newsletter on how there are people out there who  are misleading people into believing that they are living the so-called fabulous lifestyle; and when you may dig further they are actually struggling, and needing help with what they tout to be good at. I like the theme of keeping it real, and this moves us on to day 6 of this blog challenge.

30 day challenge

What are my three priorities for the next 30 days that will move me closer towards living life on my own terms?

Let’s talk about getting excited about something big

In today’s blog title I decided to use my traditional method for choosing a phrase. This time I have two words and a year. To me these are powerful, it is foretelling of something great to occur. I believe in miracles, don’t you?

Last year was an interesting year for me, as I became more spiritually aligned and aware. This was more related to how I saw my past experiences and the positive outlook and mindset, which I was going to continue to carry forward. I remember one evening I was on a high, and no this was not due to artificial stimulants. I believed that “I can”. I set myself some objectives in terms of how I was going to push myself forward; one was writing and publishing a book. At this stage, I can say that I have accomplished writing the book.  There was also much more that I want to achieve. Whether I am going to be successful is all in taking the required action.

Act now

Action required: My 3 priorities for the next 30 days

  1. As mentioned above, getting my book published and shouting out about it, to a wide world audience is important to me. I have a weekly newsletter and in today’s edition I talked about how I did not get my projected funding, which I had marked for progressing with my book published. I announced that I will have a go at using the power tool of the social crowd, Kickstarter, to give me the funding to make it happen. So I now have 30 days from today to go out there, tell my story of what I intend to do with the Naked Series so that I can make it happen.
  2. Get my law course programmes available for my new brand Miss Law Tutor. Design the courses, and create them so that they are ready to be purchased. I admit I have procrastinated a bit.
  3. Get some more sign-ups for my new GoGetterMe reality newsletter, AKA The Naked Diaries.
30 day challenge

Waiting to Exhale….

It’s now day five of the 30-days blog challenge and I decided to go back to my typical SophiaWorld style in terms of my blog title: Waiting to exhale. This was partly due to some tips that were provided in today’s challenge. If you would like to see it, please click here. I recommend you read this first, as you do not want to miss out on the flow.

I do not usually explain outright in my blog posts the reason behind their titles, as:

  1. the answer is usually within the post; and
  2. I like to get the reader thinking – be curious.

30 day challenge

Today’s question of this 30-days blog challenge was:

What’s does your perfect day look like?

Subjective Test

The state of being perfect is a subjective test. Here, I must be sounding like a lawyer. For readers new to the brand SophiaWorld, I did read law at university. (Just a little on my back story) Going back to perfect, it reminds me a little of the fairytale “Goldilocks and The Three Bears”. In this story Goldilocks was trying different porridge bowls, stating too hot and was happy when it was “just right”.  This leads me to my perfect day.

Waiting to Exhale

In 1995, the movie Waiting to Exhale, starring Denzel Washington, the late Whitney Houston and Angela Basset was released. One of the characters talked about finding a life or love partner, and how it was a great moment when they found them. They described this moment when then can finally relax, exhale and allow to flow with life. This feeling flashed to my mind when thinking about my perfect day.

Opening Act – Day start

I awake to the sound of the birds chirping away, I slowly stretch from my foetal position. I had a nice rest. As I start to focus and become alert, I hear my “love” moving around in the kitchen, humming, whilst making the breakfast. I think, is he not sweet, knowing how I like to be treated? I can smell the porridge with the cinnamon -yum, yum.

I walk down into our kitchen of our beach house, which is one of our favourite homes. I take my seat at the round table; look at the folded newspaper and laugh as my love knows that I am very selective in when I will read the news. He comes up behind me and plants a kiss on my cheek, then takes his place opposite me. We go through our morning ritual, where we talk about what we want to do for the day ahead and our projects. He asks me if I have any ideas for any new Film/ TV/Internet show. I also ask him about his plans. At this moment I remind myself how thankful I am to life, the universe for providing what I have called for. One being: this lovely partner whom I can share in this freedom of location lifestyle. Just like heaven now plays in the background…

Middle Act

I have so far spent three hours of working solidly, catching up on emails and working on one of my projects. I have been working on a new coaching programme for my fans. I hope that they will be excited as I am. Now I can start to slow down and enjoy the rest of the day with my love.

Closing Act

I have left my beach house and decided to go with my love, to one of our favourite local restaurants. The service at the Asian-food restaurant was always good. We thought that it be our night out from the kitchen, although my love does most of the cooking. After dessert we start to talk about our travel plans, where we will be basing ourselves. With my work being online, and I am being able to operate well from anywhere once I have a good internet connection, this allows us flexibility. We start to think about basing ourselves closer to our family, as soon there will be a newer addition to our family. It is so nice to have friends or love ones close by. I remind him that although it will be nice to be closer to the family, I am happy once our little family is together.

It is so lovely deciding sometime ago, that I wanted to have a lifestyle that enabled me to have the balance between business and personal. Incorporate my love for travel and adventure, and not allowing the time to continue to keep ticking whilst I am in a paralysis in not taking a step forward into living my free range-style lifestyle.

I, on most days, think to myself that I can just exhale and smile and enjoy the NOW not wondering but living. And here is the late Whitney Houston sounding out this perfect day

30 day challenge

The suitcase entrepreneur 30-days challenge day 4

It’s now day four of the 30-days blog challenge and it is all about the “L” word today, location. Here was the question:

30 day challenge

What is your definition of location independence?

How being in on destination almost choked me

When I was working the 9-5 lifestyle where my destination for work was usually fixed, somewhere in an office cubicle, I had days where I dreamed. In these dreams my mind would often escape from my surroundings: office gossip; office politics and the stiff-corporate game. At times I felt that I needed this escape, as I was often oppressing my true creative “genius”. So there was a lot of conformity on my part. I must admit that I did rebel in some ways. One was in the uniform, adding a splash of colour in terms of my clothing. Yes, I can be flamboyant but did this in an elegant and professional way.

How I perceive being location independent

As previously touched upon in the previous posts, in terms of deciding to live a lifestyle it is all down to mindset. Being location independent first conjures into my mind: choosing where and when, I would like to work. Instead of going to multiple locations to see clients, I may decide to work from the comfort of my bed on my Mac Book Air. Yes, it may not be in an open-plan office, seeing the same scenery but it is freedom.

A day in the life of a location independent entrepreneur

I was bitten quite badly by the travel bug. As a result, I feel at ease when I am hopping on a plane to a different location.  And when it has been too long then I will feel some travel withdrawal malade. Being location independent will consist of making some plans and having to consider the following questions:

  1. What are my current projects or businesses? Here I am looking at my paid and unpaid work. Paid work is the one where I am generating an income flow. This could be offline products like my book “Series”: the Naked Series and later the Love Series. Programmes linked to these that I may have as an offline model or live one, where I am interacting with my delegates in real-time. The unpaid projects are the ones where I am doing the preparation for new products which may not be monetizing straight away.
  2. Where am I going to? Is it for pleasure and business? Is it purely for business? In the business model that I am currently building, one of the main things required to make it a success is the audience. A lot of what I do centres around social media. I need to build the awareness of my brand. I want to be open about me and what I am doing, so people can have confidence in my brand.  In terms of location it is great to combine business and pleasure. If this is the case then I may be very flexible in where I decide to temporarily call my abode. If my intention is to simply focus more on the business side of my life then I may be staying in a city. By the way one of the places of business where I would love to go next is LA.
  3. What settings would I like to be in? Will it be a 5 star hotel, or a 3-4 will do. I may  instead decide to feel more like the locals and rent a flat, cottage or house for a longer period of time.
  4. Money. How much do I want to spend in my travel budget?

The above questions will be food to thought. Yes being location independent is partly linked to where I want to be working and how much time I want to spend there.

Heaven to me is having that choice to communicate virtually, and then afterwards going out to explore my surroundings.

30 day challenge

The suitcase entrepreneur 30-days challenge day 3

It is day three of the suitcase entrepreneur 30-days challenge, and I will be 10% away through this challenge after finishing writing this post – yippee. I find that it is good to acknowledge the steps that you take in pursuant of the life of freedom of the travelling entrepreneur. Travelling could not only mean the in the physical sense, but also in the mind: moving forward, allowing and accepting the possibilities.

30 day challenge

What’s your definition of freedom in business and adventure in life?

Yesterday I described what freedom was to me: being aware that I had options and that there was no limit on possibilities. I also mentioned how good lighting and high ceilings were a must in my residences. Freedom in business is having a clear vision on what I wanted to do, and obtaining the “ideal” customers that I wanted to be serving. So these are customers who are buying and reading my books to get clarity and feel confident afterwards. It is also the people who are approaching me for coaching. Importantly, these customers are the ones who are appreciating the “value” of the service that I am providing. They are recognising my perceived self-worth.  And because of this there is no qualm about the price that is being charged.

As I am the co-creator of my life, I will be the main visionary of my business ensuring that I do not depart from my heart-centred ethos. This means doing things from my heart, not simply for the sake of earning money. Otherwise I will be defeating the purpose of living the lifestyle as the travelling, or freedom entrepreneur. I can almost be at the office, working at someone’s company, 40-hours per week.

Living as the adventurer is sometimes going into the unknown, not knowing what to expect with the people you meet or possibilities that can enfold. I will have my favourite affirmation in my head:

“All is well.  Everything is working out for my highest good. Out of this situation only good will come. I am safe”-  Louise Hay

30 day challenge

The Suitcase Entrepreneur 30 days challenge – day 2

Yesterday, was the first day of the Suitcase Entrepreneur 30 days blog challenge and I posted an entry about why I started blogging with SophiaWorld and my new venture GoGetterMe. Please find the post here. I thought that it would be nice to continue this challenge where it all started.

30 day challenge
If you woke up tomorrow and were free to do anything you wanted with your life, what would you do and who would you be?

In my life having freedom is important. This is freedom from sometimes the mental barriers, which maybe paralysing me from going out there and doing what I need to do in order to have the lifestyle that I want. So the lifestyle I aspire to is one that will allow me to travel and operate a business from my Mac Book Air. In a sense I have started to do this in the form of having an online tuition business. But I would love to wake up every day, preferably in one of my main residences which will be in a warmer climate. The sun “uplifts” me and my endorphins love to bath in this. So I would be waking up in my residence in sunny California. The structure of this home will consist of high ceilings and great lighting. Stretching out in the morning and thinking as I am defrosting myself that, “life is great”. I take the term defrosting from how my friend once described her new-born when he was waking up and adjusting himself to his surroundings.
So in terms of what I will be doing for a living, or to be more precise: how I will be living my life. I have a few offline businesses including Miss Law Tutor, and investing 20% of my time into them. With the rest of my time I will be focusing on brand SophiaWorld – my book series, the TV shows, the Talks and the other programmes. This will be a wonderful life with me chanting ever so often, “how can it get any better than this?” I will be expressing gratitude for this, saying thanks to the universe. A percentage of my lifestyle is connecting with my close love ones, as this is important.
The big “now”, enjoying what is present in my life is important.

Eye of the “tiger”: The “fighter’s spirit”

I was out with my younger sister recently, when she made reference to a recent comment that her sister-in-law had made about me: “I cannot keep up with your sister, as she seems to always be on the “go” with regards to the different projects.” And I thought if only she knew about my battles that I sometimes have with keeping up the “momentum”. How does one keep going at certain times?

Some people search inwards by looking for a God, -ing, or any other source of comfort – this is good for them. There are others that search outwards which may at first seem to be the easiest method. I am not saying that this is bad, as I am a believer in self-help, going out there to find solutions to questions. But when we are looking for answers, is this to do with an issue that we seem to be facing from time-time – a repeat pattern – or for a new problem? You may be wondering why I am asking this. Let’s revisit the topic the word that I brought in earlier on, “momentum”. Drive, passion, motivation can be described as the part that keeps the machine going – the human being. These words are also “emotional” based.  And what happens to emotions, they can be predictable and can change; similar to the fluctuation of a currency. That currency can stay within a range for a fixed period of time. I will not continue with the economics, can you see the point?

How does one keep the momentum up? Is there a “pill” that can be taken? We seem to live in culture, or maybe we like to find the easiest and fastest solution.  Is there anything wrong with this? Why do things have to be hard – it should come easily – should it not? Maybe it is something that needs practising, making perfect.

Today in a forum, I was asked the question directed to a method used at keeping motivated. How simply writing down an affirmation or “quote” is not sufficient. Yes, I can write down anything on a piece of paper and post-it. I write this cheque for $1,000,000 and I will “acquire” this. I will find my love and get married within 90 days. There is this saying, “each, to their own,” and another I remember once being heard repetitively, once whilst on holiday in Barbados, “different strokes for different folks”. So I accept that what may work for another individual, might need to be altered for another.

Going back to pills, (I feel that I may need to re-title this, that pill), they can hit a “spot” and then make you feel better again. Or you may need to keep taking the pill. How about having a good source to refer to. In my writings on relationships, a core theme that radiates is self-love. Finding the love from within, and even my guest blogger Rajinder Rana-Uppal wrote about this.  With all energy sources this will need fuel. I do this by trying to keep “grounded” and staying connected with nature. I also keep clear and focused on my intentions. Keeping clear is important, and I always recommend to people who may be a bit stressed and wanting to seek balance to check-in.  Ask how they are feeling? How do they want to be feeling? What 5 things are important to them, as priorities can change.  Sometimes having that “vision” or “intention” written or posted as an image can act as a reminder. Talking about reminders they do serve their purpose. Recently I was going through an emotional week, and it was amazing how I saw my support network come together. I had questions directed at me, when a plan did not work out, “so what are you going to do?” Another reminder of the positive impact I had in another person’s life when they were low.

So keeping the momentum, the fighting spirit is remembering what your intentions were. Like the Rocky film, keep on going despite the obstacles.

Never give up

Never give up

Not another Valentine’s article: Me, myself and I (My love story)….

I write this blog as that special day approaches, the one that comes after the New Year celebration. Have you guessed it? Yes, it is Saint Valentine’s Day. A day where lovers exchange gifts which can be in the form of poetry, flowers, chocolates, short-holiday breaks and romantic meals. I personally like “poetry” – being the romantic that I am – after all I created “Soppy Sunday”.

For others they may dread this day. These are the ones who may not be in a relationship or, thinking about staying in a relationship just to receive a gift. I have known a person who was guilty of the latter. No, it was not me – not to sound like that Shaggy song.

In some countries Valentines Day is treated as a friendship day, one that I do not mind celebrating. After all, should we not be loving and friendly all-year round; instead of the one day?

So what inspired this article? Love of course. How some people feel that they are incomplete unless they have a loved one, a companion? I thought, although I would not normally like to admit this: how about also jumping on this Valentine’s “love” bandwagon.

Let’s pause here, I am on this love bandwagon already since I am currently writing my first book: “The Love Series, Clueless in Love?”

love pillow

In recent weeks, I’ve witnessed this built up of marketing for Valentines Day. In the form of the shops displaying hearts, to special radio show interviews with experts giving advice on how to find a date in time for the day. Okay, I agree that it is good to take advantage of “face timing” staying on trend with what is current. But I thought how about turning the subject around, focusing on being happy and being in love with guess who, you.

I often have discussions with people who are in relationships, not in relationships, wanting to get over a relationship and wanting to get into a new relationship. One common thread that often appears is how they “dislike” or “fear” the idea of being alone. They may not say this direct to me, but I sense this in the conversation when asking them certain “quality” questions. I said the F-word, one which the happiness coach – the lovely Gabrielle Bernstein – refers to as: False Evidence Appearing Real, in her latest book May Cause Miracles.

Would it not be interesting to “explore” other themes around the “psyche” of love? Talk about why it is great to love me, myself and I? Get ready to receive love? I have some exciting news. This month will be a SophiaWorld first, the premier of my LIVE, Clueless in Love, online love workshop. Yes, I will be exploring these themes sending out the “let’s be happy”, be in “love” vibe. If you would like to attend this online workshop please click on the link and I look forward to meeting you there.

the “happy” cult

Since last year, 2011, I have been working on myself! It’s amazing how in life we go through different phases from infant to primary school pupil, then comes the later years when we may be at University and soon transitioning into the beginning of our work life; where we need to get serious. Along these timelines we are developing and forming new relationships: BFF (best friends forever); work colleagues; boyfriend or girlfriend relationships.

Going back to the beginning part of the article, we attend and enter the educational system as we are meant to. We form love relationships, as it is part of the human nature to want to be social.

Like with all systems and processes, they can become momentous, routine; before you know it, you can find yourself lost! Talking about Lost, remember that big TV show, where to begin with we did not understand why the characters were on the Island?  Then they woke up, to realise what had happened: how they were stuck in a kind of “purgatory”. During the same year, another British TV series was ending: Ashes to Ashes that was a follow-up to the series “Life on Mars”. The ending had a similar plot to that of Lost.

So why I am a talking about phases, TV shows, purgatory?  I will be coming back to that shortly. Earlier on this year, I wrote an article entitled “Are you Awake?” This was how we can get lost in everyday life, become detached from our own inner-self, self-awareness. What happens when we start to become more self-aware? We can then start to see major shifts in our lives; some positive ones that can increase our inner-peace and happiness. There goes the “h” word – happy! A lot of people when asking them what they would like more of, besides money, is “happiness.”

Some people seek happiness and start their journey, a lot of times, by searching “outward”. How many people have you met who have said: “I am going to find myself.” Or, I want to find love so that I can be “blank”.  Did you guess the missing word, of course “happiness”? Then you get other people who prefer to be unhappy, wanting to dwell on their misery – the dementor.  These people may not even like happy people around them.

I have found from my discoveries that happiness starts from within, not externally.  It is all about “perception”, how you look at events.  Instead of seeing an “undesired” result, see the opportunity to grow, be open to something amazing – finding your Mr/Ms who wants to “grow and share with you”; instead of being “fixated” on that one person who is making you feel insecure and unhappy. (Reference to love, but I am writing a book on that!)

With the shift in perception, some argue that this results in opening your heart to a new way of thinking on life and love, that you seem to be “positive”, a happy “bunny” most of the time. There will be others with their ego shouting: “why are you so positive, there is always one challenge or obstacle that gets thrown in?”  I saw this question poised on a recent forum: “how can a deal with others around me who do not understand how I have found a “truth”? I described this feeling of people thinking that you have joined “the happy cult.” Singing: “Kum Ba Yah, My Lord. Kum Ba Yah.”

We are all going on our own journey at our own pace; needing to come to our own realisations. For example, if you are unhappy deciding that you want to change this state. No one else can do this work for us, as it our “truth”. I would reply to those chants asking why I am happy, “yes I am, sending out my love to you”.

Omertà : My response to the Yahoo article

Today, an article will be unveiled in the world wide web (www), one that it very close to home. This is because it is about me. It tells about a time gone by, a period where I was going through a relationship that was negative, and there was other external factors. But is this not, usually a pattern of how external factors can be influenced by internal emotions?

You may wonder the reason for the title of this article, Omertà. It is Italian and refers to “code of honour”, and if you have watched the mafia movies such as the  Godfather, you would have seen a community that kept silent about certain things because it was the done thing – not to talk about them. Why was this? Was it to do with the typical English “stiff upper lip”, grin and bear it? Or was it shame? Before this article was to be published I had the opportunity to view it; and although I agreed to take part in the interview it was shocking to see the results in “black and white”. This had been my life, a period of time which I have now moved on from. So, began, the emotional turmoil as I was temporarily shifted back to that time. I called upon a good friend who is based in Canada, who I have known since my school days, to discuss the article. She too had a preview, a taster. She made a the comment about how it is good to get my story out there, along with the journalist, that it would “inspire” other people that they can change a “negative” situation. My initial worries were that I did not want to come across wanting sympathy and pity. It was not retaliation against the “wrongdoer”.

After all I do believe in “positivity”, motivation and “inspiration”. The What’s Stopping You campaign is my baby. Talking about inspiration, my writing is inspired by everyday life; the people that I met; experiences that I have had; added with humour. This has been a year of the shift, where people are starting to become more aware of adding “heart” and “spirituality” into their lives. Maybe you may not have felt this; and I’m feeling these “vibrations” more. The point is that people want to connect, not just to their “inner-voice” but other people. For a while this would probably be through the medium of watching a TV soap, reading a piece of fiction, hearing the radio gossip of the latest celebrity “shenanigans”. But now people are seeking answers in self-help books. I have read quite a few – so would say, why not. I believe that there is revolution going on “real-life” stories.

Almost Perfect: A story on making it happen (releasing “blockage”)

Recently I have not been creative in “drawing” and creating stories through my words. Where had all the creativity gone? Was it due to a block – a writers block – to be more specific? This was after all a common issue that a writer may encounter once in a while. It can probably be argued that we all experience a form of “blockage”, at different intervals during our lives.

Here, I will discuss emotional, mental “blockage”, which brings up a subject close to my heart: going out there and achieving your possibilities. Recently, I launched an inspirational campaign aimed at helping people in fulfilling their potential, regardless of what challenges they may encounter: what’s stopping you?

This was an idea/concept born from the people that I may encounter in my daily life, from the customer in a hair salon, telling me about their frustrations of wanting to start new career in a different field; to a disillusioned graduate still not securing a job, months after leaving University. I would start the conversation asking where they would like to go, and it was amazing by the end of this conversation: how their whole body language, demeanour, would change after giving them a prep chat on options and paths that can be taken. I thought: think of the work I can do with people, to help inspire and motivate them to achieve their dreams. These not only involved me coaching and mentoring, but also collaborating with other individuals and businesses that may want to mentor, share ideas, jobs within a network.

So what’s stopping you purpose was to release the block in terms of barriers that a person may believe they have in obtaining a career, or learning goal. How about my block?

I launched a new start-up this year, a training business, ProActive Vision Training.  Setting up a business is “scary” but a continuous learning process. I thought I had set of clear intentions of where I would like to take the business. If you asking whether I have made mistakes, yes, of course I have. This project has been very important to me, as it was an extension of me – my baby!

In this next paragraph, you may be questioning did I answer the question, “how about my block?” I am leading up to this. My block has been, wanting to do things very well: almost perfect.  In terms of the creative process, like one speaker said recently, “ go with the flow with the creative process in the “storming” stages. If you analyse too much, you are at risk of losing the essence. The full potential!”
